Learning to Give Each Thing Its Proper Place
‘What water is meant to do, do not expect from a soft drink.’
We should give honour where it is due, use the right tool for each task, and focus only on what is truly necessary. Our pursuit should be for what truly profits, not what drains us. Let the things that matter most hold their rightful place, rather than trying to grasp everything that comes our way.
Jesus said,
Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.’ – Matthew 6:33
This is the priority He sets for our lives. As we seek His kingdom, He grants us wisdom to prioritize among the good things that come. Like the sons of Issachar, we must discern what deserves our focus and what each moment demands.
When the body needs water, you do not give it a soft drink. Though both are liquids, only water truly satisfies the body’s thirst. In the same way, do not replace Bible reading with prayer, prayer with singing, or personal gatherings with online streaming. Each is valuable, but each has its proper purpose. Our task is to recognize the season and give every discipline its due weight.
Let us seek what truly satisfies and give each discipline its proper place in our lives.
Reflection Point:
Spiritual maturity is learning to discern between what is good and what is best — to give every godly discipline its rightful place and keep our hearts fixed on what truly matters.
Key Verse:
“But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” — Matthew 6:33 (NRSV)
